The purported sequel to a 2021 Square Enix PS5, PS4 RPG shooter has seemingly been canceled allegedly due to a lack of interest from the publisher. Developer People Can Fly has confirmed that it has suspended Project Gemini, which has long been assumed to be Outriders 2.
Was People Can Fly’s Project Gemini a sequel to PS5, PS4 shooter Outriders?
Square Enix didn’t officially announce Outriders 2, but it was widely reported that it tapped People Can Fly once again to develop the sequel. For its part, People Can Fly confirmed that Project Gemini was to be published by Square Enix, and in its press release annoucning Gemini’s status, the studio blamed the publisher.
“The Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on Project Gemini,” People Can Fly wrote, adding that there was a “lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project.”
As a result of this move, People Can Fly also canceled a self-published game code named Project Bifrost, and laid off 60 staff members. It’s unclear what Project Bifrost was.
People Can Fly is currently developing Gears of War as well as a PlayStation IP to be published by Sony.
