The first PS Plus AAAA game arrived yesterday with an AAAA sized issue that has left some players frustrated already. Those who are dabbling into Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones via PS Plus Extra, Premium are only just realizing that if they partook in the game’s beta or free trial eons ago, they’re stuck with the same save data.
PS Plus game Skull and Bones won’t allow players to start over
You see, Skull and Bones’ player progress/save data is stored on Ubisoft’s servers, so simply deleting files off of your PS5 doesn’t work. Those who never purchased the game following the beta or trial, but want to try it out for free via PS Plus, cannot start over at all.
Since I didn’t play Skull and Bones myself, I investigated this issue to be sure that the complaints that I was reading were correct. I found year-old threads discussing the same issue i.e. Ubisoft won’t allow players to start a new game from scratch. Additionally, Ubisoft’s website confirms that players are only granted one save file, so it’s not possible to start a new game.
So, those who were messing about in the beta or trial are stuck with the same progress.
“This upset me highly since I wanted to start a new captain and invest time into the game,” wrote one player. “But I guess playing the free beta before launch ruined that.”
Unfortunate.
