Google Drive Gemini features now include file change summaries with “Catch me up”

Google Drive Gemini features just got more useful. Google has rolled out a new “Catch me up” feature for Drive. This feature uses Gemini to summarize what’s changed in your files since you last viewed them. If you juggle shared Docs, Sheets, or Slides, this could save you a ton of time.

You can activate “Catch me up” by tapping the star next to a file name or by hitting the button at the top of your Drive home page. The summary will highlight the “helpful and important” changes, not every single tweak, so if you need a deep dive, you’ll still want version history. But for a quick, at-a-glance update, it’s a big step up.

According to Google, “Starting today, Gemini can identify relevant files from a user’s Drive with changes since it was last viewed and provide an overview of those changes. This includes file edits on Docs and file comments on Docs, Sheets, and Slides. While this list isn’t meant to be comprehensive, it aims to highlight changes that may be helpful and important.”

This joins other recent Google Drive Gemini features. This includes a video summarization tool that lets you ask Gemini questions about any video stored in your Drive. So not only can you get caught up on documents, but you can also get instant recaps or answers from your videos.

The ‘Catch me up’ feature is rolling out in English now. However, Google says it might take up to 15 days before it appears for everyone. If you don’t see it yet, hang tight—Gemini’s making its way to your files soon.
