New Netflix movies: every original film you can watch on the best streaming service in June 2025

New Netflix movies: June

Tyler Perry's Straw

Release date: June 6
Runtime: 107 minutes

The latest project from prolific creator Tyler Perry, Straw stars Taraji P. Henson as the mother and carer of her ill daughter. Pushed to the brink by a world that doesn't seem to care about her or even know of her family's plight, Henson's hardworking mom soon finds herself at the center of a bank robbery that doesn't exactly go to plan.

Billed as a dramatic thriller, Straw might be one of those rare Perry-developed productions that earns its stripes with fans and critics alike. We'll have to see how it performs first, though, before deciding if that's the case.

Fear Street: Prom Queen

Release date: May 23

Set six years before the first Fear Street movie – chronologically, anyway – in 1988, Prom Queen follows a group of It Girls who, surprise surprise, are about to attend their graduation prom at Shadyside High. Predictably, a serial killer is not only on the loose, but also infiltrates said party and starts getting stabby stabby with those in attendance.

Critics and general audiences have slammed Prom Queen, with many saying it's an insult to the first three films in Netflix's young adult horror franchise. Unless you're a fan of incredibly gory films and/or seeing unlikeable characters get murdered, then, I'd suggest steering clear of this one.

Nonnas

Release date: May 9
Runtime: 114 minutes
Age rating: PG-13 (US); 12 (UK)
Cast: Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Talia Shire, Lorraine Bracco, Brenda Vacarro, and John Manganiello

A feel-good and heart-felt flick, Nonnas stars Vaughn as Joe, who opens a restaurant with four Italian grandmothers following the death of his own mom.

A comedy that hasn't been panned by fans and critics alike, Nonnas might come across as quite schmaltzy and saccharine, but it's nonetheless funny, endearing, and at-times incredibly emotional. In an era where Netflix comedies usually flop, I'm as surprised as you are to see one be received well!
