PayPal is no longer available as a payment method in Google Wallet in the U.S. The change went announced, and was only spotted via a support page on Google's website.
Google had already prevented PayPal accounts from being added to its Wallet app since April 2025. This is the web page in question, it is only accessible for users in the U.S., and it says that "Starting June 13, 2025, if you have a PayPal account linked to your Google Wallet app, you will no longer be able to use it for payments. Linked PayPal accounts will be automatically deleted and no longer supported."
It is worth noting that this change does not affect Google Wallet users who have added their PayPal-branded Debit Mastercard. The sudden removal of the feature has left users puzzled about why this change was made. But the removal of PayPal from Google Wallet could be related to PayPal's app adding support for contactless payments, the feature was recently introduced in the Android and iOS versions of the app for users in Germany.
The discontinuation of Google Wallet support is likely a hint that the NFC-based tap-to-pay feature will be announced for users in the U.S. soon. Until then, users will need to add their cards directly via Google Wallet to continue making purchases using the app.
The timing could be inconvenient for users, as PayPal is set to be removed from Google Wallet within 2 weeks. Users who have recurring payments set up with PayPal will need to update their payment method before June 13, 2025, to avoid potential payment failure problems.
Android Authority reports that PayPal will continue to support Google Wallet users in Germany, which is rather odd considering that is the only Country where its own app supports NFC.
