Sony has attempted to explain why it removes fan favorite PlayStation exclusives from PS Plus, especially those that players can’t purchase or play otherwise. Fans will recall that the company removed a number of exclusives recently that included PS3 games that could only be played via PS Plus Premium, prompting backlash.
Sony explains the recent exodus of beloved PlayStation exclusives from PS Plus
GameFile’s Stephen Totilo quizzed Sony about the removal of PlayStation exclusives from PS Plus, specifically the departure of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 alongside Infamous: Second Son. While removing the latter is somewhat understandable, players who don’t have a PS3 have now permanently lost access to the Resistance games.
“We’ve got 80 collections of games across the catalog,” responded Nick Maguire, PlayStation’s VP of global services. “So we want to keep it fresh and bring in new games. Sometimes that means taking a few games out at the same time to keep the proposition interesting and help people find new games as well.”
Considering the Resistance games were only available via the most expensive tier that isn’t exactly flooded with classics, this “explanation” is a bit bizarre.
We certainly understand not adding brand-new AAA games to PS Plus day-one, but removing older games that are barely getting any sales outside of PS Plus doesn’t make sense. It’s not like players are flocking to buy PS3 copies of Resistance, but what do we know.
