Apple has revealed the name of the next iteration of macOS. It is called macOS Tahoe 26.
The menu bar is now transparent, which makes the display feel larger. There are more options in the Control Center to choose from. Just like iPadOS 26, macOS 26 also gets the Phone app with all the latest improvements.
Continiuity now supports Live Activities from your iPhone, and these appear on the menu bar. You can automate various actions using Shortcuts.
Spotlight has been overhauled, search is now smarter and displays results that include files, folders, events, apps, messages, and more, which are now listed together and ranked intelligently based on your usage. It displays suggestions, and has new filtering options to narrow down searches quickly. The Spotlight UI has some new buttons using which you can access your apps, files, and clipboard history. It supports quick keys which can be configured to perform specific actions, e.g. send a message by typing sm, add a reminder with ar.
macOS 26 also brings the Apple Games app, and unlike the mobile versions, the desktop version has a game overlay with various options to adjust the system settings, turn on Low Power Mode, etc. macOS Tahoe also introduces Metal 4, for more advanced graphics and rendering technologies to games, like MetalFX Frame Interpolation and MetalFX Denoising. Apple says these will provide smoother visuals and faster frame rates in games.
Tahoe includes the Liquid Glass design, updated app icons, and more.

Users who with to install macOS 26 beta can do so by opening the Settings app > General > Software Update, and by selecting the beta version. The stable version of the operating system will be released this Fall.
