Players have discovered a new PS Store exploit that allows them to purchase PS5, PS4 games from cheaper regions. Recently, Sony fully enabled Apple Pay support on the PS Store, and some players have reported that are able to circumvent regional restrictions by using the new payment method.
Sony previously plugged exploits that enabled buying PS Store games from cheaper regions
Last September, we reported that Sony had made it virtually impossible for users to exploit cheaper PS Storefronts — like Turkiye, for example — by making it mandatory to have a local payment mode with no option of purchasing PSN cards.
The company took things a step further by raising digital game prices in Turkiye, though we doubt that the move was entirely in response to players exploiting the region (there are economic factors at play).
Now, players who’ve used Apple Pay state that the PS Store currently doesn’t have a mechanism to check which region the payment is coming from when using an Apple product like iPhone to make payments. As a result, they can create a PSN account in a cheaper region and purchase games without an issue using their local card.
A ResetEra user based in Denmark confirmed that they used Apple Pay linked to their local credit card to purchase games from the US PS Store, which came out cheaper for them.
We’re pretty sure Sony will put an end to this real soon.
