When you think of wearables, which brand comes to mind? If you said Apple, we don’t blame you. The Apple Watch is everywhere. However, it turns out that, in terms of global market share, Apple ranks third. So, who comes in first? Fitbit? Google? Garmin? It turns out that the leader of the global wearable market share is none other than Huawei.

Huawei leads the global wearable market

According to the latest figures from IDC China, Huawei is killing it in the global wearable market. The company took the lead for the first quarter of 2025 with a total of 10 million units shipped. This also represents a respectable 42.4% growth compared to the same quarter a year ago.

With this latest shipment, Huawei’s wearables now account for 21.9% of the global market, up from 17% the same period last year. So, if Huawei is first, does that mean Apple is second? Once again, that isn’t the case. In fact, Xiaomi comes in second place with 8.7 million units shipped and takes home 19% of the pie. This is up from last year, where Xiaomi accounted for 14.7% of the market.

Apple actually came in third place, with 7 million units shipped in Q1 2025. It now holds 15.5% of the market, an increase from 12.5% last year. Samsung and Garmin are in fourth and fifth place, with 7.5% and 4.7% of the market, respectively.

Huawei and Xiaomi’s dominance

The Apple Watch is one of the most mainstream wearables in on the market today. However, just because it’s everywhere doesn’t mean it’s the most popular. For starters, it has limited appeal because you need an iPhone for it to work correctly. This alienates a massive chunk of the world’s population.

Secondly, despite the release of the more affordable Apple Watch SE, the smartwatch is still considered a premium wearable. This is versus Chinese companies like Huawei and Xiaomi, both of whom have a bunch of different wearables that appeal to shoppers on a budget. For example, the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 is priced at a mere €39.99. It comes with a display and all the health and fitness tracking you need.

Let’s not forget the Huawei Band series which is priced at around $50, making it a steal for users who don’t own an iPhone and don’t need anything too fancy.
