It’s pretty easy to be overrun with similar-looking pictures in Google Photos. This is why Google introduced Stacks, which combine similar-looking pictures into folders on the Google Photos home screen. According to a new report, Google Photos now lets you manually add photos to Stacks.
You should be familiar with Stacks in Google Photos by now. This feature has been around for some time. Say, you took five pictures of that one flower just to get the perfect shot. Well, when you open Google Photos, you will see all five of those pictures combined into one element on the home screen. In order to view all five of those pictures, you will have to tap on the Stack. That expands it and lets you manage the photos.
This neat feature has its limitations. The only thing you can do is remove photos from Stacks.
However, Google Photos now lets you manually add photos to Stacks
At the moment, it seems that this feature is only available to iOS users. So, Android users will have to wait just a bit longer for it. Google’s AI is pretty impressive, so it can successfully add similar-looking photos to Stacks. However, it’s not perfect. It can sometimes exclude photos. If a Stack didn’t include a photo that you think it should be in, there was nothing you could do about it.
However, Google lets you manually add photos to Stacks. This functionality was first seen in Google Photos version 7.29 on Apple devices. Looking at the screenshot below, using this feature is as simple as selecting the photos you want to add and tapping on the new Stack photos button that will pop up in the panel at the bottom. It’s as simple as that!
What’s neat is that manually making your own stacks allows you to organize the photos however you want. They don’t have to be similar-looking photos. If you want to combine photos for one particular photo shoot, a vacation, a party, etc., you can.
At this point, we don’t know when this feature will make it over to the Android app, but we hope it won’t take too long. Being able to manually create photo Stacks in Google Photos is an incredibly useful tool.
