Galaxy Z Fold 7 ditches under-display camera for punch-hole on both screens

Samsung looks ready to walk back one of its more experimental design choices. According to a new leak, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 will ditch its under-display camera entirely and go with punch-hole selfie cams on both the outer and inner screens instead.
Previously leaked renders of the Z Fold 7 already hinted at this change. Now, tipster PandaFlash X has backed that up, claiming the phone will no longer use UDC at all. Both the cover screen and the inner foldable display will have visible punch-hole cutouts, similar to what you see on most smartphones today.
This might feel like a step backward for fans who appreciated the clean, uninterrupted look of previous Fold models. But it’s not all bad news.
The biggest upside is improved image quality. Under-display cameras have always had limitations. Because the lens sits under the display, photos often look hazy or soft. By switching to a punch-hole, Samsung can use a more capable front-facing sensor without any display layer blocking the lens.
The trade-off is visual. Instead of a seamless full-screen experience, you’ll now have a camera hole staring at you from the middle of the foldable display. It’s a small thing, but noticeable, especially on a premium device that once aimed for futuristic minimalism.
Samsung already tried this approach with last year’s Galaxy Z Fold SE. That phone used a similar display panel to the one rumored for the Z Fold 7. Aside from thinner bezels, not much else has changed in terms of screen tech.
It’s unclear why Samsung is stepping away from UDC in favor of a punch-hole for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It could be a cost decision, or maybe image quality just won out this time. Either way, if the leaks hold true, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will mark a return to more traditional selfie camera design.
