Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 is starting to fail in a new and frustrating way. Users are reporting a growing number of cases where the screen suddenly turns red and then becomes completely unresponsive. The “Galaxy Watch 4 red screen” problem isn’t new, but it looks like it’s picking up steam.

Sometimes it starts with a reddish tint. Other times the screen just goes solid red with no warning. Eventually, it fades to black, and the watch stops working. Owners have shared similar stories across Reddit and Samsung’s support forums, with many saying their otherwise reliable watches just died on them without any signs of damage.

The worst part? Most of these units are now out of warranty. That means users are stuck paying for a screen replacement out of pocket. And since Samsung hasn’t officially acknowledged the problem yet, there’s no guarantee they’ll cover it unless you push hard through support.

It’s also not clear whether this issue might show up on the newer Galaxy Watch FE. That model borrows a lot of its components from the Watch 4, so it’s a fair concern.

If you’re affected, your best bet is to contact Samsung support directly. A few users have managed to get repairs without being charged, but it seems to vary depending on location and who you talk to. For now, the red screen of death is a very real problem with no clear fix in sight.
