Buried in between all the announcements at yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play was a new PS Plus day-one game, bring this year’s total to five. Brought to you by the artist behind ABZU, The Pathless, and Journey, Sword of the Sea is a new atmospheric adventure game out in August.
PS Plus received quite a few day-1 games in 2025, including a big hit
Sword of the Sea will launch straight onto PS Plus on August 19. Previously, subscribers were treated to Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, and the universally-praised hit, Blue Prince. The remaining day-one games include FBC: Firebreak and Abiotic Factor.
Abiotic Factor currently doesn’t have a PS5 release date, but FBC: Firebreak — a Remedy Entertainment title set in the Control universe — will launch on the service on June 17.
If you’re wondering what Sword of the Sea is all about, it’s a surfing adventure where players explore a “mysterious and visually stunning world of waves.” From what we’ve seen, it looks like a pretty zen game.
“Explore a world where the land flows in constant waves,” says developer Giant Squid. “From massive tides to the smallest ripples, the shifting sea of dunes is incredibly detailed and beautifully rendered. Surf across sandy deserts, glacial mountains, and many more undulating environments full of secrets in this incredible adventure.”
