Owning a smartphone can be rather dangerous. As such, security measures are always welcome. According to a new report, the Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 allows users to test out the new Advanced Protection mode for Android devices.

We keep a ton of data and private information on our phones. This includes our name, passwords, location, banking information, Etc. The list goes on! So, if someone steals your phone, it can absolutely devastate your life. This is why Google, Apple, and most Android OEMs go the extra mile to ensure that your data is secure on your phone. These companies do more to protect your data than most people know.

Android 16 users can test out Advanced Protection mode

This is an example of the whole being more than the sum of its parts. Advanced Protection is a new feature, but it’s actually composed of a collection of existing features working together to increase your phone’s overall security. It offers a one-tap solution to enable a handful of security settings that make your phone exponentially more secure. People running the latest Android 16 QPR1 beta can try it out for themselves.

When enabled, your phone will activate a handful of security settings. Firstly, your phone will not install potentially dangerous apps or let you side-load apps. Next, your phone will be more secure when web browsing. This means that if you use Chrome, it will require that all sites use the HTTPS protocol and block JavaScript from running.

Advanced Protection will also block all unsecured connections like public Wi-Fi, 2G, and WEP. Your phone will only allow 2G connectivity when contacting emergency services. Next, your phone will block USB data transfers.

When it comes to communication features, your phone will be more strict about blocking spam calls and scams. The same thing goes for Google Messages.

With the flip of a switch, all of these settings will activate, but can’t change any settings individually. Everything will be enforced to the fullest extent.

Once you are on the latest beta, all you have to do is go to your settings, go down to the Personal and data safety section, and tap on the Advanced Protection button. On the resulting page, you will see a rundown of Advanced Protection along with the toggle to enable it.
