Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max comparison

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is a new high-end smartphone offering from the company. It’s a powerful phone, a member of the Galaxy S25 series, but also an extremely thin phone at the same time. In this article, we’ll be comparing it with one of the most powerful phones from Apple. We’ll be comparing the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is no longer the top dog over at Apple, but it’s still an immensely powerful phone.

As per usual, we will first list their specifications and then move to other categories. We’ll be comparing their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. These two phones are quite different, in a number of ways, so this should be interesting. With that being said, let’s get down to it.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Design

There are a couple of similarities design-wise, but they do look considerably different. Both smartphones include flat front and back sides, not to mention a flat frame all around. Both of them also include a frame made out of titanium, while they have glass on the back. That’s basically where similarities end, however. The Galaxy S25 Edge has less rounded corners, even though they are rounded.

Samsung’s phone also includes a centered display hole up top, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a pill-shaped cutout called Dynamic Island. Both phones have thin bezels, and they’re uniform on both of them. The ones on the Galaxy S25 Edge are a bit thinner, though. All of the Galaxy S25 Edge’s physical keys sit on the right-hand side, including the power/lock and volume rocker buttons. The iPhone 15 Pro Max includes a power/lock key on the right side, while you’ll find its volume buttons and an Action key on the left-hand side.

If we flip them over, you’ll notice that their camera islands are in the same spot, but they’re different. The Galaxy S25 Edge includes two cameras in the top-left corner. They’re vertically aligned. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has three cameras in the same spot, with a recognizable iPhone placement.

They have the same display size, but the Galaxy S25 Edge is a bit shorter, narrower, and considerably thinner. It’s an ultra-thin phone, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also thin… but not as thin. The Galaxy S25 Edge is much lighter at 163 grams, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max weighs 221 grams. Both of them are slippery and IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Display

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). That display is flat, while the resolution here is 3120 x 1440 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is around 92%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. This display is protected by the Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 from Corning.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, features a 6.7-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. That display is flat, and it has a resolution of 2796 x 1290. It supports an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz), and also HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The peak brightness here is 2,000 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The Ceramic Shield protects this panel.

Both of these displays are actually great. They’re vivid, very sharp, and have great viewing angles. The touch response is good on both of them, and the blacks are as deep as you’d expect them to be. The high refresh rate on both displays helps them feel smooth while scrolling and general use. They’re also bright enough. What neither display offers is high-frequency PWM dimming, though.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy fuels the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. That is Qualcomm’s most powerful processor, well, an overclocked version of the company’s most powerful chip. It’s a 3nm processor, and it’s paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM here, and UFS 4.0 flash storage. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is fueled by the Apple A17 Pro processor, which is a 3nm chip as well. That phone comes with 8GB of RAM and NVMe flash storage. Neither device supports storage expansion, by the way.

Both of these phones offer great performance when it comes to day-to-day tasks. They’re fast to open and close apps, jump between them, browse, message, email, and everything else that comes to mind, really. That is to be expected considering how powerful both smartphones are, though.

What about gaming? Well, the iPhone 15 Pro Max still does an outstanding job, even with the most demanding titles out in the market. We still didn’t review the Galaxy S25 Edge, so we cannot be sure, but based on what we’ve seen, the phone does a great job, but it does accumulate some heat when you’re firing up the most demanding games. It remains to be seen if that’s a problem, though.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Battery

There is a 3,900mAh battery included inside the Galaxy S25 Edge. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 4,441mAh battery on the inside. Apple’s iPhones usually have smaller battery packs than their Android counterparts, and it’s the exact opposite here. That is only an indicator of a tiny battery that Samsung opted to use inside of this phone. A 3,900mAh battery is considered to be smaller on much smaller devices than the Galaxy S25 Edge. This phone’s ultra-thinness is one of its main selling points.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max still has great battery life. That phone had great battery life from the get-go, more or less, and that’s still the case. It can keep you going for quite some time, and even if you’re a more demanding user, chances are you’ll get to the end of the day on a single charge. That’s not something that can be said for the Galaxy S25 Edge. From what we’ve seen, the device can’t really go high in terms of screen-on-time, which is to be expected considering its battery capacity. If you’re a power user, this is not a phone for you. It may be enough for some of you, however.

The Galaxy S25 Edge supports 25W wired and 15W wireless (Qi2 Ready) charging. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, supports 20W wired, 15W wireless (MagSafe & Qi2), 7.5W wireless (Qi), and reverse wired charging. Neither smartphone includes a charger in the box. The Galaxy S25 Edge can be fully charged in about an hour, a couple of minutes over that mark. It takes the iPhone 15 Pro Max around an hour and 50 minutes to fully charge.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has two cameras on the back. A 200-megapixel main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor size) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit (1/2.55-inch sensor size). The iPhone 15 Pro Max has three cameras on the back. A 48-megapixel main unit (1/1.28-inch sensor size) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV), and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (1/3.06-inch sensor size, 5x optical zoom).

The main camera performance is in the same ballpark. Both of those cameras are very capable, even though they provide completely different results. The iPhone 15 Pro Max leans more towards making images look closer to real-life, while the Galaxy S25 Edge is not afraid of adding a bit of color to the mix. They handle different scenarios differently, if you’ve used a recent high-end iPhone or a Samsung phone, you’ll know more than half the story. They both do a good job in low light too.

Both ultrawide cameras are good, but a level or two below the main shooters. If you’re taking pictures in low light, stick to the main cameras. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a default advantage in telephoto shots as it has a periscope telephoto camera. That camera is far from the best on the market, but the Galaxy S25 Edge doesn’t have one at all, so… there you go.

Audio

Stereo speakers are included inside both devices, though the ones on the iPhone 15 Pro Max are better. They’re not only louder, but they do offer a fuller sound overall. The difference is not big, but it’s noticeable.

There is no audio jack on either phone. You can connect your headphones via the Type-C ports on the two phones, however. If you prefer wireless connectivity, the Galaxy S25 Edge supports Bluetooth 5.4, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with Bluetooth 5.3.
