It seems the rumors were true. The Persona 4 remake is real, but was mistakenly revealed by the original voice of Yosuke, Yuri Lowenthal. However, this confirmation may also disappoint long-time fans of the lauded Atlus JRPG.

Voice of Persona 4’s Yosuke, Yuri Lowenthal, will not be in the remake

In a recent post on Bluesky, which has already been deleted, voice actor Yuri Lowenthal confirmed he will not voice Yosuke in the still unrevealed Atlus remake of Persona 4. In his post, he said that after he “asked” and “even begged,” the developer would not bring Lowenthal back as the character he played in the original 2008 release.

“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake,” Lowenthal said. “I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

This has sparked some concern over who will provide the English voices for the Persona 4 remake. Specifically, with Laura Bailey’s Rise and Troy Baker’s Kanji.

“Without Laura Bailey or Troy Baker, which almost feels guaranteed, it’s gonna be so sad. They voiced Rise and Kanji so well,” says one Reddit user.

“No Laura Bailey is going to be a real bummer for me,” says another Reddit user. “I loved her English version of Rise’s song, [and] was hoping for more in the remake.”

Of course, none of this has been formally announced by Atlus. Now that the Persona 4 remake was accidentally revealed, we’ll get more information sooner rather than later. Summer Game Fest is just around the corner, so maybe more will be said there.

Although not nearly as thorough as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered leaks, the supposed Persona 4 remake seems to be one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming right now. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Persona 3 Reload, a domain for a Japanese website presumably tied to the upcoming remake was recently registered.
