Microsoft's Copilot for Gaming is now available in beta. Testers can access an early version of the AI on Android and iOS devices.
The AI-powered assistant was announced a few months ago, and Microsoft touts Copilot for Gaming as "the ultimate gaming sidekick" that is designed to help gamers without distracting the gameplay. The companion app integrates with Xbox, and knows what game you are playing. It can understand your gaming activity on Xbox and provide information about games that you may be interested in. The AI will reply with answers to your queries, and uses data from Bing Search to provide links to cite its sources, just like Copilot on the web.
Microsoft says that users can speak to Copilot or type their query in to ask it about things to do in a specific game such as materials required to craft an item in Minecraft, or tips about beating a boss in South of Midnight, or even ask the AI to give you some tips to increase your Gamerscore. Since it has access to your gaming history/account, you could ask it about your Game Pass subscription's renewal date, or about achievements in specific games. Copilot for Gaming can recommend games based on your internets, you could ask it to suggest something from a specific genre like an RPG, Horror, etc.
Want to try Copilot for Gaming? It is currently rolling out in the beta version of the Xbox app for mobile, but only in a few locations. The AI-powered feature is available for testers in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, and select Countries around the World. Download the beta version of the Xbox app for Android from the Google Play Store. iOS users will need to wait for the testflight to open again.
Microsoft says that it is working on bringing Copilot for Gaming beta to Game Bar on Windows PC in the near future.
But the question remains, who wants to use an AI during a gaming session?
