Gemini AI is set to officially debut in Chrome today. Google has published a video on YouTube to tease some new features that users can expect.

This is the AI-powered agent for Chrome that Google has been working on for the past year. Google said during the I/O 2025 event that the company wants Gemini to evolve into a "World Model," integrating the multitasking features of Project Mariner with the visualization capabilities of Project Astra.

Google says that the web version of Gemini differs from the version that is integrated in Chrome. The video highlights various ways that users can use the Agentic AI for. To begin interacting with Gemini, you will need to click the Gemini icon on the toolbar, and type your query.

You can ask it to help with various tasks such as summarizing a web page, explaining a topic, providing relevant answers, modifying a recipe to suit your needs, etc. But it can do more, Gemini in Chrome can be used to manage your tabs. It can even pull up information from the tabs and present it to you. Gemini can complete tasks on the web page you are on.

Gemini AI in Chrome is connected to Google's services, for example, you can ask it to add a task to your calendar, and it will create it for you. And it also supports a hands-free mode, aka Gemini Live. Users can chat with Gemini, simply by speaking to it in natural language.

Gemini in Chrome is coming to Windows and macOS. Users can invoke the AI using Alt + G on PC, and Ctrl + G on Mac. It is unclear whether these AI features will be made available for Linux.

Want to try it? Gemini in Chrome will be rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US, who have their Chrome language set to English.

This is a big step for Google, and the results could revolutionize how users interact with web content. Gemini's ability to pull data from open tabs might raise some privacy concerns among users. Google claims that "Gemini in Chrome activates only when you choose to use it via clicking on the Gemini icon or the keyboard shortcut you set up. It assists on your terms, stepping in only when you ask." We will need to wait for Google to launch the feature officially to see how it works.
