Foxconn to Build New iPhone Enclosure Factory in India With $250M Investment [Report]
Foxconn is putting another quarter-billion dollars into its Indian manufacturing operations, with plans to build a new factory in Tamil Nadu focused on producing iPhone enclosures, according to a report from the Economic Times. The plan is a key part of Apple's continued push to build out its supply chain beyond China, a pivot that's gained urgency amid geopolitical tensions and the threat of new U.S. tariffs. The new plant is set to be built near Foxconn's existing iPhone assembly facility in Sriperumbudur. A senior government official told the outlet that the project is just awaiting final approval from the state's High-Power Committee. That same official added that the state is actively trying to attract more of Apple's supply chain partners, noting, "A lot of companies are looking to invest in Tamil Nadu."This investment doesn't happen in a vacuum. It follows a massive $1.5 billion injection from Foxconn into its Indian operations and comes as other facilities, including a new Tata Electronics plant, have recently started iPhone production. The goal, according to other reports, is to have most iPhones sold in the U.S. made in India by 2026.Continue ReadingSpotlight Deal:Apple's 2025 Back to School Deal Offers Free AirPods, Apple Pencil, or Mac Accessories With PurchaseShare Article:Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, EmailFollow iClarified:Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube
