Tech experts have analyzed Doom: The Dark Ages PS5 Pro performance ahead of the game’s release this week, and the results aren’t great. According to Digital Foundry, the game runs best on Xbox Series X and despite crisp image quality on Sony’s pricey PS5 Pro, it offers some of the ‘less exciting’ Pro enhancements among recent AAA games.
Doom: The Dark Ages PS5 Pro performance is disappointing for a major AAA game
Digital Foundry says Doom’s visuals on the base PS5 and Pro are pretty much a match. Additionally, PSSR hasn’t been implemented. In more demanding sequences, there’s even a performance dip.
What is particularly bothersome is the frame rate dips that Digital Foundry detected during challenging combat. Overall, Doom’s performance is better on the PS5 Pro than the base console, but it’s Xbox Series X where it shines.
“This is one of the less exciting Pro upgrades we’ve seen in recent triple-A fare,” wrote Digital Foundry’s Oliver Mackenzie, who added that Doom: The Dark Ages’ didn’t make the best first impression on him given its performance issues.
We’re pretty sure Doom: The Dark Ages will receive performance improvement patches in the near future. However, if these issues will bother you, we advise saving your money for another game right now.
