Googles Teases New Editing Features for its “Photos” App

A decade after its initial launch, Google recently announced some new updates for the Google Photos app, which includes new editing features and sharing options. The new tools were highlighted via Google’s official blog (which you can also check out here).

That being said, the new Photos update includes a redesigned editor that consolidates all editing tools into an easily-accessible space and introduces new AI-powered suggestions as well. The new feature lets users do quick edits through tailored options with suggested tools based on specific parts of an image. This also means that tools like Reimagine and Auto frame (which previously exclusive to Pixel 9’s Magic Editor) will become more widely available for different devices.

The redesigned editor is scheduled to launch globally for Android devices next month, with an iOS release later in the year. Users will also be able to share photo albums via new QR code generation, allowing others to easily view or add photos by scanning the code. This feature is currently rolling out.

The Photos app will also come with support for new features such as a “Places View” that maps travel memories, an “enhanced search function” that enables specific queries by using named faces, and automated “Best of Month” and “Year End Recap” memories. Users can also create personalized highlight videos from selected media, and use shared album automation for easier photo sharing with select contacts.

Additionally, Google Photos will also let users customize their photo grid by stacking similar images or hiding specific content like screenshots, and hide certain people, pets, or dates and choose between time-based or themed memories, alongside a “Free up space” feature to manage device storage by removing backed-up items.
