Google Messages delete feature begins beta rollout for RCS group chats

Google is finally starting to roll out the long-awaited “Delete for Everyone” option in Google Messages. It’s only showing up for some beta users right now, but it looks like the feature is being tested in the wild—and that could mean a full launch isn’t far off.

The Google Messages delete feature was first spotted back in an APK teardown of version 20250131_02_RC00, which referenced two new options: “Delete for everyone” and “Delete for me.” Now, a Reddit user in the public beta says those options are live in at least one of their RCS group chats.

Interestingly, they mention it only works in one big group with 12 people—none of their smaller groups or one-on-one chats support it yet. That suggests Google is doing a slow, targeted rollout, maybe to see how the feature handles different group sizes.

This delete feature is part of the RCS Universal Profile v2.7 spec announced last year, so Google’s been laying the groundwork for a while. Our earlier teardown also found hints that users might get a notification when someone deletes a message, though it’s unclear if that part is live yet. Depending on how it’s implemented, it could either feel transparent or slightly invasive.

Still, it’s a welcome step. Users have been asking for a “delete for everyone” option for ages, and the fact that it’s finally appearing—even in limited form—means Google is closer than ever to making it real.
