Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra in the second half of 2024. The company is now all set to launch the successors to these wearables in the Galaxy Watch 8 series soon. Ahead of the launch, Samsung recently teased a new ‘innovative design’ for the upcoming Galaxy Watch series devices. Now, a new leak may have given us the first look at the final design of the Galaxy Watch 8.

Folks at Android Authority recently dug around a leaked One UI 8 Watch firmware. In the firmware, they’ve spotted a handful of new details about the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic models. This information arrived soon after the FCC cleared them.

Galaxy Watch 8 vanilla models could offer a squircle design and two sizes

In the APK teardown of the firmware, the source has discovered that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 could be ditching the circular body shape of the predecessor. Samsung could adopt a new squircle body design for the vanilla Watch 8 variants, while offering the same rounded screen. It’s quite similar to the design of the current Galaxy Watch Ultra model.

Furthermore, the test firmware has indicated that the regular Galaxy Watch 8 model could offer the same two buttons on the side. Besides, the source has also spotted mentions of two sizes for the Galaxy Watch 8 – small and large. Unfortunately, the code hasn’t revealed their exact dimensions.

Galaxy Watch 8 Classic could be similar to the Watch Ultra

As for the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic variant, the test firmware has indicated that it could offer a design similar to the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It means it could have a squircle body with a rounded display. Notably, the leak also suggests that it could feature an unaccented Quick Button, apart from the Galaxy Watch Ultra-like strong vibrations.

The animations in the test firmware don’t confirm that the Watch 8 Classic will get rotating bezels. Furthermore, the source says that it didn’t find size information for the Classic model. This doesn’t mean Samsung will offer it only in a single size variant, but it could be possible. Lastly, the leak suggests that this model could get an extended vibration pattern support like the Watch Ultra.

We already know that One UI 8 Watch will power the Galaxy Watch 8 series. So, you can expect features like battery protection, a Shortcuts app, randomized watch faces, Now Bar support, and the Antioxidant Index functionality.

Samsung could launch the new wearables alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in Q3 2025. So, we’ll soon have the complete official information regarding the new smartwatches.
