iPhone 18 Leak Hints at Major Design Overhaul — Finally

Apple has reused the same iPhone design for several generations. We get it. Designing a phone isn’t easy. There are many things to consider other than aesthetics. Plus, manufacturing new molds is expensive, especially at the scale of Apple’s iPhone production. However, that will change in 2026 with the iPhone 18, which is rumored to sport a brand new look.

iPhone 18 to come with a new look

In a new post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, they claim that Apple will adopt a new look for the iPhone 18. The post mainly talks about the phone’s display. For starters, the display size of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max remains unchanged at 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches. Secondly, their resolutions are 1.5K and will use LTPO panels. However, the post doesn’t go into more details.

What will change is the front-facing camera and TrueDepth camera system. Apple currently relies on what it calls “Dynamic Island” to house these components. It’s basically a floating pill-shaped cutout on the front of the phone. However, Digital Chat Station claims that with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, Apple will go with a hole-punch design.

This is something many Android phones have been using for years, but it is one that Apple could finally adopt.

This isn’t actually new information per se. We’ve heard these rumors before, but it’s nice to see some corroboration. However, take note that Apple isn’t going to go full under-display yet. Last we heard, only Face ID will be going under-display. The front-facing camera will remain as it is. This might explain why Apple is using a hole-punch cutout.

We also hear rumors that the iPhone 18 could use Apple’s new C2 modem and feature a 2nm chipset.

Major changes coming in 2027

If you’re a little disappointed that only the display is being changed, then you’ll want to hold off until 2027. This is because, according to the rumors, Apple might be holding out for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary to make significant changes. Apparently, Apple will go with a “mostly glass” design for the 20th anniversary iPhone.

In fact, the iOS 26 Liquid Glass design is apparently a little taste of what’s to come. The 2027 iPhone is also rumored to feature a full under-display camera system. This means there might not be a notch, pill-shaped cutout, or a hole-punch at all. Either way, we’re still a couple of years away so take it with a grain of salt.
