Google’s Partnership with TSMC will Last for Several Pixel Generations, Reports Claim
It's predicted that TSMC will be responsible for the next half-decade of Tensor chips. The post Google’s Partnership with TSMC will Last for Several Pixel Generations, Reports Claim appeared first on Phandroid.

It’s not exactly a secret that Google’s own Tensor smartphone chips have been the subject of considerable criticism and scrutiny since their release, and while they have fit perfectly into Google’s own vision of what it wants Android to be, they are undoubtedly underpowered against the competition.

That’s why when rumours arose of a growing partnership between Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) and Google, Pixel fans were optimistic for the company’s future Tensor chips and any and all improvements that could be made possible, especially with regards to factors like battery life, thermals, and overall technical performance, to name a few.
For context, all Tensor chips up to the Tensor G4 have been produced in collaboration with Samsung, whose efforts with its own Exynos chips has been looked at unfavourably over the past several years. By comparison, TSMC’s efforts with Snapdragon chipsets has been more impressive in terms of product performance.
More recently, it’s now reported that Google has entered into an agreement with TSMC, which will see the latter making chips for as much as the next half decade, starting with this year’s Tensor G5 series, all the way up to the Pixel 14 series devices. The initial report from Digitimes—and subsequently expanded upon by 9to5Google—also mentions that TSMC will use a 3nm process for the Tensor G5. Part of the report reads:
It is understood that when senior executives from Google’s US headquarters visited Taiwan recently, they visited TSMC to discuss the issue of switching Pixel phones to chips manufactured by TSMC. The cooperation between the two parties has been envisioned to “at least 3 to 5 years later…
…The Tensor G5 will use 3nm chips manufactured by TSMC, which has been rumored in the industry for a long time.
While there technically has been no official announcement from either Google or TSMC, it’s probably safe to predict at this point that things have been mostly ironed out between the two, as is usually the case with these kinds of leaks.
