Yet another Google Pixel Camera 9.9 update is rolling out, following the rollout of the same version about 10 days ago. This is a rather small update, but there are some changes worth noting.

Yet another Google Pixel Camera 9.9 update is hitting Pixel phones

This, slightly newer version, is marked as 9.9.106.773153235.19, while the previous one is marked as 9.9.106.767010485.16. The update is rolling out widely, by the way, so you won’t have to wait long to get it.

In any case, Google removed the Social Share option from the previous update, and it’s still gone. So, it seems like that feature is gone for good, as it did not come back with this new version of the app.

With this update, you can no longer swipe up on the circular preview of the last photo you took in order to send it to compatible apps. Previously, you should select up to three targets for that swipe. Well, that is gone now.

This new version also comes with a tweak for the Timer icons to improve their visibility. The visibility of the 3, 5, and 10 numerals has been improved in the new version… arguably. I, personally, think it looked better in version 9.8, and that it was easier to read too… but there you go.

The ‘education hub’ is still missing

Some of you will also notice that the ‘education hub’ is not visible yet. It was announced as part of the June 2025 Pixel Feature Drop, but it’s still not visible. It’s coming to Pixel 6 and newer phones, though it will seemingly land as a server-side update.

Once that feature becomes available, you’ll always see a question mark in the top-right corner of the Camera viewfinder. Tapping it will let you “Explore ways to take photos”. You’ll get Examples and How to instructions for every mode.

That is basically all there is to it. As already mentioned, this is a rather modest update, nothing to write home about. The ‘education hub’ is coming, but that won’t really matter to many people either. All of us are waiting for the Material 3 Expressive version of the Pixel Camera, that’s for sure.
