Cover and Hololive Pull Vtuber Stream of Nintendo Game

Cover Corporation, owner of the Hololive and Holostars Vtuber agency, took down an Usada Pekora stream video containing gameplay from a Nintendo video game due to the suspected infringement of Nintendo’s livestreaming guidelines. This comes from her recent broadcast during which she shared footage of herself playing old Pokemon cartridges she purchased online. The specific video taken down is the second one of Usada Pekora’s “used Pokemon Emerald cartridge gacha” livestreams, during which the Vtuber managed to find an extremely rare shiny Mew. This can only be achieved in Pokemon Emerald by going through several pre-owned cartridges and using the Japan and Taiwan exclusive Old Sea Map limited-time event item. The livestream took place on March 29, 2025. Usada Pekora is suspected of having inadvertently used a pre-owned hacked cartridge during the livestream. It isn't clear if the Hololive Vtuber used a hacked cartridge of the Nintendo game without her knowledge. While it is possible for a shiny Mew to be found under such circumstances, its spawn rate is extremely low. In a statement made by Cover, the company apologized to fans for any inconveniences caused and explained that, after consulting with Nintendo, the video has been taken down. Cover will also take measures to better inform and offer guidance to its staff, and will avoid any situations that may lead to a risk in violating the livestreaming guidelines of associated companies.
