Over the past few years, the electric vehicle segment’s growing presence in the automotive market has shown continued growth, thanks in part to an increase of newer and more capable models from various manufacturers. Take BYD for example, which recently unveiled the latest addition to its lineup with the BYD Dolphin Surf, the company’s smallest EV yet.

The Dolphin Surf made its debut in London, and we were able to check out the car in person. A deceptively-small vehicle, it measures at just around 157 x 68 x 63 inches, making it one of the smallest BYD cars—and smallest EVs in general—available on the market. There’s ample space inside though, and BYD was more then excited to demo just how many large suitcases you can pack in the rear (it can fit up to three, if you were wondering).
Powered by a 30kWh battery with support for up to 85kW DC charging, BYD states that the car comes with a range of up to 200 miles, 175Nm of torque, and can even go from 0 to 62 mph in just 11.1 seconds. While it is impressive in general, BYD is marketing as a vehicle suited best for passengers in urban environments, with the added benefit of a pretty compact chassis that should have little problem fitting into tight parking spaces.

It also comes with a smart in-vehicle navigation system, which includes a tablet interface that can respond to certain voice commands, in addition to compatibility with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It’s also one of BYD’s more affordable models—the Dolphin Surf starts at £18,650 for the “Active” Trim, £21,950 for the “boost” Trim, and £23,950 for the “Comfort” Trim.
