Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Looks Like a Beast in Leaked Benchmarks

Qualcomm is expected to debut its next-gen flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, at the Snapdragon Summit later this year in September. Naturally, the chipset will offer improvements over its predecessor, but exactly how big of an improvement are we talking about? Thanks to leaked benchmark results of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, it looks like we’re talking huge improvements.
Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 leaked benchmarks
This information comes courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station in a post on Weibo. According to the tipster’s claims, the Snapdragon 8 Elite theoretically scored over 4,000 points in single-core tests and more than 11,000 points in multi-core tests. Just for a bit of context, the Snapdragon 8 Elite scored 3,100 points and 9,800 points in both single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.
The most significant jump here has to be in multi-core capabilities. This means that apps and tasks that require the use of more than one core will benefit from this. Also, Qualcomm is upgrading the GPU of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. The chipset is rumored to feature an Adreno 840 GPU and 16GB of GMEM cache.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 being a beast. An earlier report revealed extremely high scores on the AnTuTu benchmark. This new leak seems to corroborate those earlier claims.
So far, we know that the chipset will feature a 2+6 CPU configuration. This is similar to its predecessor, but it will boast a higher clock speed of up to 5GHz. It is also rumored to be built on TSMC’s latest 3nm process. So, it should be more powerful and power-efficient than before.
Qualcomm will have to face off against MediaTek
That being said, we expect that most flagship phones will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. However, Qualcomm can’t afford to sit on its hands. We’re hearing rumors that MediaTek is planning to debut its next-gen chipset, the Dimensity 9500, slightly earlier than Qualcomm.
Similar to the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, leaked benchmarks of the Dimensity 9500 suggest that it will be just as capable, if not more so, than Qualcomm’s offerings. Many mainstream brands still use Qualcomm’s chipsets, but if MediaTek can put out something just as powerful but cheaper, Qualcomm should start worrying. The Dimensity 9500 will use a slightly different 1+3+4 CPU configuration, with its main core clocking at over 4GHz.
On paper this means it is slower than Qualcomm, but we’ll have to wait for real world tests to get a better idea.
