Based on a new, albeit sketchy rumor, OnePlus is working on a gaming-focused sub-series of phones. The information comes from Yogesh Brar, a tipster who doesn’t exactly have the best track record. So take the information with a grain of salt.
OnePlus is allegedly working on a gaming smartphone(s)… it’s a big “maybe”, though
In any case, the tipster claims that this will be a “new sub-series from OnePlus aimed at gamers”. We’re not sure if he means a new sub-series of phones, or a whole new sub-brand, like IQOO is to Vivo, for example.
He says that this is “still experimental”, and that the global releaser is “dicey”. So even if it ends up seeing the light of day, it’s easily possible it will be exclusive to OnePlus’ homeland, China.
Furthermore, Brar also listed some highlights of this new phone, or phones. He says that it/they will end up offering “bigger battery, flagship SoC, gaming triggers & more.”
If it ever becomes a reality, it will have some fierce competition
By mentioning a flagship SoC and gaming triggers, he points to a full-fledged gaming smartphone here. A phone that is supposed to compete with the likes of the ASUS ROG series, RedMagic smartphones, and other gaming devices on the market.
The thought of having a gaming smartphone from OnePlus with OxygenOS/ColorOS on top, does sound rather appealing. OnePlus and its sister companies, OPPO and Vivo, have been making some truly compelling smartphones. So, this would be interesting to see.
As already said, however, take the information with a grain of salt. Brar did plant the seed, but we still don’t know if it will grow or not. He himself doesn’t seem to be sure if this is happening or not, hence the mention of the word “experimental”. If there’s something there, we’ll likely hear more about the project in the near future, so stay tuned for that.
