Meta Teams Up with Oakley, Because Apparently Ray-Ban Wasn’t Sporty Enough

For a couple of years now, Meta has worked with Ray-Ban to create the best pair of smart glasses on the market right now, the Meta Ray-Bans. Many creators swear by it, because of the built-in camera, which makes first-person point-of-view videos so much easier to make. And now, we’re getting a whole new design for these glasses.
The Meta and Oakley partnership seems to be official now, with Meta teasing it on social media. Including creating a new Oakley Meta Instagram account, teasing “the next evolution is coming on June 20”.
Meta is expected to use another pair of very popular frames from Oakley for these smart glasses, which would be the Oakley Sphaera frames.
We don’t yet have any renders on how these glasses will look. However, I’d be very surprised if the “smart glasses” portion looked much different from the Meta Ray-Bans. That includes having a camera in the corner and a light on the opposite corner to indicate when you’re recording.
Meta’s best decision was working with Ray-Ban and now Oakley
Name a more popular glasses maker than Ray-Ban and Oakley? You likely can’t. That right there proves why this was the best decision that Meta could have ever made for their smart glasses. Essentially, taking a design that is universally loved, making it a bit thicker and heavier to hold all of the components inside, and selling them for a pretty decent price. That’s exactly why the Meta Ray-Bans have been so popular.
Meta also didn’t go overboard with functionality. I almost hesitate to call these “smart glasses” because there’s really just AI translation, and that’s about it here. The biggest feature is video recording and the ability to take photos. But Meta does let you do translation, it can also tell you what you see, and another popular feature is using the glasses to listen to music or podcasts while you’re out on a walk.
