While we’re waiting for Google to announce the Pixel 10 series of smartphones, some information regarding the Pixel 12 series has already surfaced. Yes, you read that right, the Pixel 12, not the Pixel 11. For some reason, the Google Pixel 12 series codenames have just appeared online.

The Google Pixel 12 series codenames have just popped up online

The information comes from Mystic Leaks, who shared the information on Telegram. The same source did share Pixel information in the past, successfully. So, we have no reason to doubt him this time.

Before we get into the codenames, do note that the Pixel 12 series is not expected to debut until 2027. The Pixel 11 series is still coming, based on what we know, but for some reason, the Pixel 12 series codenames popped up.

The Google Pixel 12’s codename is ‘Galago’, while the Pixel 12 Pro carries the ‘Sasquatch’ codename. The Google Pixel 12 Pro XL is codenamed ‘Silverback’, while the company’s foldable, the Pixel 12 Pro Fold, carries the ‘Capuchin’ codename.

Needless to say, these are primate-themed codenames. The Pixel 11 series is expected to be codenamed after bears, while the Pixel 10 series carries horse-themed codenames.

The Google Pixel 10 is codenamed ‘Frankel’, while the Pixel 10 Pro carries the ‘Blazer’ codename. The Pixel 10 Pro XL has the ‘Mustang’ codename, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is codenamed ‘Rango’.

Google opted for primate-themed codenames

In any case, let’s go back to the Pixel 12 codenames. They do make sense, to a degree. The ‘Galago’ is a small nocturnal primate which fits the small Pixel 12 handset. ‘Silverback’, on the other hand, is a large primate, and the Pixel 12 Pro XL is a large phone, and so on.

The Google Pixel 12 Pro Fold cannot really be paired up with any primate and make sense, as it’s a foldable phone. So you can argue that the ‘Capuchin’ codename doesn’t make sense, of course.

These codenames are not particularly revealing, but it’s still interesting to get the information so early.
