Google has updated its Snapseed app to version 3.0. The update is currently available for iOS and iPadOS.
Snapseed debuted for iPad and iPhone in 2011, and a year later on Windows. Google acquired Germany-based Nik Software, the makers of the photo editing app, in 2012, following which an Android version was released. It was around this time that Google killed the Windows app. On the bright side, the previously paid app became free.
9to5Google reports that this is the first major update for the photo editing app in nearly 4 years. Snapseed 3.0 brings a redesigned interface that displays a grid of all photos that you edited. The app's editor is divided into three tabs at the bottom: Looks, Faves and Tools. Looks lets you quickly apply different effects, you can navigate the bottom bar using swipe controls. Faves has options for auto (adjust), adjust, selective, crop and healing.
The Tools tab has multiple sections, based on the tools that you can use. Adjust & Correct has the following options: Adjust, Details, Tonality, Curves, White Balance, Lens Blur, Vignette. Retouch & Transform has these tools: Selective, Brush, Healing, Portrait, Crop, Perspective, Expand, Head Pose. The Style section has different filters like Film, Glow, Retrolux, Vintage, Black & White, HDR Scape, Drama, Noir, Grunge. The last section is labeled Creative and contains these tools: Double Exposure, Frames, and Text. Most of these tools have an arc-like control bar that you can drag left or right to apply the changes.
The icon of Snapseed has been updated too, it no longer has a background tile. One odd thing that I noticed in the app is that it now requires full access to photos on iOS, Snapseed refuses to open with limited access to images, this might put off some people.
Download Snapseed 3.0 from the iOS App Store. It is unclear whether the Android app will be updated.
