Design-wise, the upcoming iPhone 17 series won’t look too different from last year’s models. The main change is in the camera module on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. It now has a larger footprint than their predecessors. However, Apple is making changes; it’s just under the hood. Thanks to a newly leaked photo, the vapor chamber cooling system planned for the iPhone 17 Pro series has been revealed.

The iPhone 17 Pro’s new cooling system

Thanks to a post on their website, tipster Majin Bu has shared a photo that they claim belongs to the iPhone 17 Pro’s cooling system. According to the post, Apple will use a vapor chamber cooling system for the iPhone 17 Pro.

Apple rarely talks about the cooling system it uses for its iPhones. It’s very Apple, however. The company usually focuses on specs and features it thinks might benefit users more directly. While cooling systems are interesting from a tech perspective, not everyone might appreciate it.

That being said, the change to a vapor chamber cooling system is new. In the iPhone 16 Pro series, Apple used a graphene thermal system. Upgrading to a vapor chamber system should allow the iPhone 17 Pro series to remain cooler than its predecessors. This means that running intensive apps, especially those that require a lot of processing, like AI, will not make the iPhone run as hot as before.

Also, as Majin Bu states in the report, the use of a vapor chamber is one reason why Apple could switch from titanium to aluminum. According to rumors, Apple will switch from a titanium body for the iPhone 17 Pro series to aluminum, which might explain why the company is making the change.

Apple’s 2025 lineup

If you’re looking for an iPhone with some of the most significant upgrades, the iPhone 17 Pro models are your best bet. So far, most of the rumors we’ve heard are related to the Pro models. The base iPhone 17 model will probably get its share of upgrades, but it won’t be exceptionally substantial.

However, Apple is rumored to ditch the iPhone 17 Plus in favor of a thinner iPhone 17 Air. This is Apple’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. It is also rumored to serve as the precursor to the upcoming foldable iPhone, which will launch in 2026.
