Galaxy S22 Users in US: Your May 2025 Security Update is Here

A couple of days ago, Samsung started rolling out the May 2025 security update to the Galaxy S22 series of phones in India. Now, the South Korean tech giant has released the same update for the users of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra in the US. The new update has arrived after the company released the much-awaited Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update for these devices earlier this month, which also brought the April 2025 security patch.

Carrier-locked Galaxy S22 series devices are getting the May 2025 update

Samsung is expanding the availability of the May 2025 Android security update to the carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy S22 series in the US. The update is rolling out for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra, which bear the model numbers SM-S901U, SM-S906U, and SM-S908U.

The latest firmware has the version “S90xUSQS8FYE4.” Samsung is rolling it out over the air in a gradual manner, so not all the Galaxy S22 series phones will get it right away. You can manually check if the update is available for your device by going to Settings >> Software update >> Download and install.

The May security patch fixes dozens of bugs

As per Samsung, the May 2025 security patch fixes dozens of high-vulnerability exploits found in the Android OS. Fortunately, the May security maintenance release did not mark any issues as critical. This update also delivers a few patches from Samsung Semiconductor.

Notably, the new firmware also fixes 20 vulnerabilities found in Samsung’s software. Some researchers privately disclosed all these security flaws to the company. One of these vulnerabilities allowed attackers access to sensitive information in Enriched Call and launch activities within SmartManagerCN.

That said, Samsung could offer the Android 16-based One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S22 series sooner than you might have expected. The company wants to make up for the delayed rollout of One UI 7 by offering One UI 8 early. Samsung recently kicked off the One UI 8 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series, which should be available to more devices like the Galaxy S22 in the coming weeks.
