Sometimes, a smartphone does more than take calls or snap photos. According to social media reports, a Galaxy S25 Ultra actually saved a Ukrainian soldier’s life during a recent bombardment. Sometimes, a smartphone does more than take calls or snap photos. According to social media reports, a Galaxy S25 Ultra actually saved a Ukrainian soldier’s life during a recent bombardment. Photos shared on the Samsung Ukraine forum show a Galaxy S25 Ultra with its screen absolutely wrecked—glass bulging outward, right where the shrapnel struck. Folks online speculated that if the shrapnel had hit the back of the phone, it could’ve caused even bigger problems since that’s where the battery sits.
The phone was still practically new. The soldier told Naver, “The sad thing is that I only used it for 3 weeks.” But even as a broken gadget, the Galaxy S25 Ultra did its job in the moment. It took the hit instead of the user.
Reports also claim that a Samsung rep reached out and offered a free repair as a thank you, but that part is still unconfirmed.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra uses a titanium chassis, with Corning Gorilla Armor 2 protecting the display. And as wild as this story sounds, it isn’t even the first time a Samsung phone has taken the brunt of battlefield damage. Back in 2023, another Ukrainian soldier shared a video of their Samsung phone stopping a bullet—again, the phone was toast, but it saved a life.
