There’s plenty of buzz around Samsung’s next foldables, but a report from Korean publication The Elec hints at Samsung foldable production cuts for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 lineup. According to fresh industry insights, Samsung has quietly lowered its manufacturing targets for all three new models—the Fold 7, Flip 7, and the more affordable Flip 7 FE.
For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s initial target was set at 800,000 units. After multiple revisions, that number is now down to around 630,000. The Flip 7’s projection has dropped from 590,000 to 550,000 units, and the Flip 7 FE took the biggest hit—its plan went from 210,000 to just 160,000 units. In total, Samsung’s June production target for foldables fell from 1.6 million units to about 1.34 million.
Why the cutback? One reason is simple: Samsung’s own conservative sales forecast. It looks like the company is feeling cautious about market demand. Another factor is ongoing uncertainty around US government tariffs. Samsung is reportedly prioritizing production for the US, trying to get ahead of any unexpected import fees or supply chain snags. That could mean fewer devices available in other regions, at least at launch.
Does this mean fewer people will actually buy these new foldables? Not necessarily. But the Samsung foldable production cuts do suggest the company isn’t expecting explosive demand out of the gate. The Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 did fine, but they weren’t runaway hits compared to earlier years. That’s probably making Samsung rethink its initial expectations this time around.
