Phone Comparisons: Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025
Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 comparison

It’s time to compare two of Motorola’s latest ‘Razr’ smartphones, the Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025. In other words, these are the vanilla Razr model that Motorola announced, and the company’s most powerful device this year. There is a third model in the equation, the Motorola Razr+ 2025. These two, however, are the cheapest and most expensive flip phone offerings for this generation of Motorola’s Razr phones.

There are a number of similarities between the two devices. The ‘Ultra’ model is, however, more powerful, that’s for sure, and it also looks a bit sleeker because of one detail. With that being said, we’ll kick things off by comparing their specs and will then proceed to compare their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025: Design

As you can see, these two phones look very similar. The ‘Ultra’ model does have a noticeably larger cover display on the back, which extends all the way to the middle of the phone where it folds. The Razr 2025 does have a visible bezel below the cover display, which is in the same color and material as the back of the phone, eco leather. Both of these phones are made of aluminum and eco leather, by the way.

In all other ways, they look pretty much the same. There is a centered display camera on the display, up top, on both devices. The bezels around both displays are similar in thickness, and neither phone has a completely flat frame. It’s slightly curved on both of them. On the right-hand side, you’ll find a power/lock button and volume rocker keys on both devices. The ‘Ultra’ model also has an AI key on the left side. That is not included on the vanilla model.

We’ve already mentioned the differences on the back of the phone. Both of them have a cover display in the upper portion of their backs, with two horizontally aligned cameras in the top-left corner. Those cameras are included in the display itself. The two phones are almost identical when it comes to dimensions, but the ‘Ultra’ variant is 11 grams heavier. Both of them also come with an IP48 certification for water resistance.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025: Display

The Motorola Razr 2025 features a 6.9-inch Foldable LTPO AMOLED main display. It offers a resolution of 2640 x 1800, and it supports up to 1 billion colors. Its refresh rate is 120Hz, and HDR10+ content is supported. The peak brightness here is 3,000 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is around 85%.

The cover display on the phone measures 3.6 inches. It’s an AMOLED display too, and the resolution is 1066 x 1056. It offers a 90Hz refresh rate and supports HDR10+ content. It also supports up to 1 billion colors, and the maximum brightness here is 1,700 nits. The Gorilla Glass Victus protects this display.

The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025, on the other hand, has a 7-inch Foldable LTPO AMOLED display. That panel has a resolution of 2912 x 1224 pixels. It supports a 165Hz refresh rate and can project up to 1 billion colors. Dolby Vision is supported, as is HDR10+ content. The peak brightness here is 4,500 nits, and the screen-to-body ratio is around 85%.

The cover display on the phone measures 4 inches. It’s an LTPO AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1272 x 1080 pixels. That display also projects up to 1 billion colors and supports Dolby Vision. Its refresh rate goes up to 165Hz, and HDR10+ content is also supported. The peak brightness here is 3,000 nits. This display is protected by the Gorilla Glass Ceramic.

All of these displays are good, they’re vivid, bright, and have good viewing angles. They’re also all sharp enough. The thing is, the ‘Ultra’ model does have several advantages. Its displays are brighter, both of them, while the cover display also offers a higher resolution. Technically, so does the main one, but you won’t be able to reach 165Hz refresh rate during normal use. That’s reserved for supported games.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025: Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 7400X processor fuels the Motorola Razr 2025. That is MediaTek’s 4nm mid-range processor. It’s basically the same as the Dimensity 7300X, but with a higher clock speed. It’s paired with 8GB of RAM inside this phone, and UFS 2.2 flash storage. The Razr Ultra 2025, on the other hand, is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, Qualcomm’s 3nm flagship processor. The phone includes 16GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage.

The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 is easily the more powerful smartphone here, and it’s not even close. The Dimensity 7400X doesn’t come near the performance the Snapdragon 8 Elite offers, not to mention that the ‘Ultra’ model has more RAM, which is also faster, and faster storage as well. The Motorola Razr 2025 Ultra does feel more snappy during use, which is especially noticeable when loading apps such as the camera app. In other words, a bit more demanding apps. It also opens apps faster, in general.

The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 is definitely the better choice for gaming as well. That processor in combination with RAM and storage, can handle even the most demanding games on the platform without a problem. The Razr 2025 does a good job, but it’s not exactly made for higher-end games, so keep that in mind. Neither phone has issues with heat, not at all.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025: Battery

A 4,500mAh battery sits inside the Motorola Razr 2025. The Razr Ultra 2025, on the flip side, has a 4,700mAh battery on the inside. The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 does have only a slightly larger battery, and two larger displays. However, it does offer much better battery life compared to the Razr 2025. Granted, the Razr 2025 battery life is not bad, but it’s not great, especially compared to what the ‘Ultra’ offers.

The difference is also not that small, getting two hours of extra screen-on-time on the ‘Ultra’ model is doable, though that will all depend on how you use the device itself. Your stats will differ based on your usage in general, what display you are using more, the apps you have installed, and much more than that. Just keep in mind that if you’re looking for a phone with a better battery life here, the ‘Ultra’ is definitely the one.

The Razr Ultra 2025 also has the edge in the charging department. It supports 68W wired, 30W wireless, and 5W reverse wired charging. The Razr 2025 supports 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. Via the wire, the Razr 2025 can be fully charged in an hour. The Razr Ultra 2025, on the other hand, can be fully charged in 45 minutes. Do note that neither phone comes with a charger in the box, though. Well, at least in the US, we cannot vouch for other markets.

Motorola Razr 2025 vs Motorola Razr Ultra 2025: Cameras

The Motorola Razr 2025 has two cameras on the back. A 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.95-inch sensor size) is backed by a 13-megapixel ultrawide unit (1/3.0-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV). The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025, on the other hand, also has two cameras, but different ones. A 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor size) is backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide snapper (122-degree FoV).

So, as you can see, the ‘Ultra’ model has better main and ultrawide cameras, on paper. And yes, you can see the difference in the actual camera samples too. We’ll talk more about that in the review itself, but the ‘Ultra’ model does do a better job in low light, where the difference is easily noticeable. It’s less noticeable during the day, but still, the images from the ‘Ultra’ model offer better balance, and that goes for its ultrawide unit too.

Unfortunately, neither phone has a telephoto or periscope telephoto camera on the back. That means you’ll have to rely on the digital zoom the main camera provides. The ‘Ultra’ model also comes with a better selfie camera, if that’s something you’re interested in. It has a 50-megapixel snapper with an f/2.0 aperture, while the Razr 2025 has a 32-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture.

Audio

Both of these smartphones come with a set of stereo speakers. The ones on the Razr 2025 are, believe it or not, a bit louder in comparison. The difference is not that noticeable, however, and both sets of speakers provide good audio output.

Having said that, there is no audio jack on either of these two phones. You can connect your headphones via the Type-C port on both phones, if you want. If not, there’s always Bluetooth, and both support Bluetooth 5.4.
