Nissan Unveils its New 2026-Edition Leaf EV

Following a sneak-peek teaser not too long ago, Nissan has finally unveiled its all-new LEAF model, marking the third generation of its signature electric vehicle. The company says that the new LEAF model is designed to attract both EV enthusiasts and more conventional drivers with new advancements in range, charging speed, and technology.

Based on data from Nissan, the new LEAF features a drag coefficient of 0.26 for U.S./Japan models and 0.25 for European variants, aided by flush door handles and aero-tuned wheels. New design accents include an evolved V-motion fascia with accentuating daylight running lamps, and available 3D holographic tail lamps.

Going inside, the LEAF comes with a relatively spacious cabin with a mostly flat floor and a “floating” horizontal instrument panel. Depending on the grade and region, users can interact with a display that uses a choice of either dual 12.3-inch or 14.3-inch screens. Select regional variants will offer Bose Personal Plus premium audio, as well as and a Dimming Panoramic Roof with PDLC technology for instant light control.

Nissan claims that the car can deliver a smoother and more responsive driving experience thanks to a 10% smaller, 3-in-1 EV powertrain with enhanced motor control, which reduces motor vibration by 75% (compared to its predecessor). Additionally, new Intelligent Distance Control Assist is available in select regions for improved city driving.

The LEAF comes in two liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery options at 52 kWh (130 kW, 345 Nm torque) and 75 kWh (160 kW, 355 Nm torque). The 75 kWh battery is estimated to deliver a maximum range of up to 303 miles, and buyers in the U.S. and Canada get access to a North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector with support for Tesla Supercharger locations.

Other features include an available 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor, two 120V outlets (up to 1500W combined), and a V2L accessory adapter. In Japan, the LEAF retains Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, while European models are Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) compatible, which essentially allows energy to be sent back to the power grid.
