PS5 vs PS4 features

Nearly five years after PS5 launched, players are realizing just how many PS4 features (beyond the obvious themes) are missing in this generation. Many of the missing features were social, like Communities, which is ironic considering live service and multiplayer dominate gaming now more than ever.

Sony dropped quite a few beloved PS4 features heading into PS5 gen

“Whatever happend to this?” asked Reddit user KenyanThompson, sharing an image of a player’s profile page that displayed what the user was listening to on Spotify at the time.

I don’t send out a lot of friend requests on PSN, so I admittedly didn’t notice that this feature never made it to PS5. But those who do enjoy socializing via multiplayer certainly seem to miss it, along with many other social features.

“PS5 kinda separated friends,” a player responded in the thread above. Another concurred, “PS5 feels disconnected socially whereas PS4 had incredible social integration. I used to love watching random feeds on Live From Playstation.”

Many people added that they miss Communities, which they used to find friends to play games with. “Communities vanishing really burned me,” a user wrote. “I used that to find good lobbies in games like Borderlands 2 that lasted for more than 20 minutes.”

The general consensus is that PS3 and PS4 UIs were a lot better than the PS5 UI, and a small number of players are already concerned about the PS6.

“The PS6 is just gonna be riddled with ads on the front page and no more personal customization — essentially a product meant for just ad revenue,” one fan has already declared.

It’s hard to disagree here. I might not be a multiplayer person, but I did prefer PS3 and PS4 UIs to the PS5’s. Sony has already been testing ads, so the comment about PS6 UI possibly being riddled with ads might not be too off the mark.
