Frustrated PS5, PS4 players are blaming Sony’s PS Store refund policy for an influx of scams that an increasing amount of players are falling for. Unlike usual PS Store shovelware, these scams mimic popular games that aren’t available on PlayStation platforms, causing unsuspecting folks to think that they’ve been released officially, only to end up losing their money.

Players denied refunds after falling for clever PS Store scams

We’ve been covering PS Store issues for a while, and just last week, we highlighted this specific problem as one that Sony needs to address soon because PS Store scammers have mastered the art of roping players into spending money.

Where players can detect and avoid shovelware, PS Store listings for popular game clones look very convincing, and we can’t blame people for falling for them. It doesn’t help that these scams end up “trending” on the PS Store because — understandably — players are searching for PlayStation ports of popular games and wishlisting them.

Unfortunately, as we reported last week, players who realize their mistake a little too late are being denied refunds by PS Support, leading to some placing the blame on Sony’s refund policy for encouraging scammers.

The ideal scenario, of course, is for Sony to not allow shovelware and scams on the PS Store in the first place, but that might be asking too much.
