Summary: The Xiaomi 16 Pro is rumored to get a new 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA sensor in its periscope lens. Additionally, Xiaomi may introduce a flat display with LIPO technology in the Xiaomi 16 series to achieve slim and uniform bezels.

Xiaomi recently launched the Xiaomi 15 series in global markets, with Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Rumours suggest that the brand is working on the Xiaomi 15s Pro model.

While Xiaomi may keep the Xiaomi 15s models exclusive to China, the brand will launch the Xiaomi 16 series as its next global flagship. We recently saw key details about the Xiaomi 16 model. Today, a new leak reveals a major upgrade to the Pro model’s camera.

Improved camera setup in the Xiaomi 16 Pro

The Xiaomi 15 Pro uses a 50-megapixel triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 periscope telephoto lens. As per a new leak, the upcoming Xiaomi 16 Pro will get a significant upgrade in its periscope lens.

The device could use Sony’s LYTIA sensor for its periscope lens. The leak doesn’t reveal the exact name of the sensor, but it suggests that the new telephoto sensor will be larger in size. Xiaomi will pair it with a new generation of lenses and a large aperture for a long-range zoom. On paper, this will result in an overall improved photography experience.

Flat display with LIPO technology in the Xiaomi 16 series

In 2024, almost every Chinese flagship featured a quad-curved OLED display. Now it appears that the brands are shifting to the old-school flat display for their 2025 flagships. The entire Xiaomi 16 series, comprising Xiaomi 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Ultra, is rumoured to use a flat display.

Besides using flat display’s the devices are tipped to use LIPO technology. Low-Injection Pressure Overmolding (LIPO) is a relatively new technology in smartphone manufacturing. In this process, a second material is molded over or around an existing component using significantly lower injection pressure than traditional overmolding methods. Using this technology, the phones will have ultra-thin bezels and an immersive screen-to-body ratio.

The Xiaomi 16 Pro could use a larger 6.8-inch flat OLED panel, compared to the Xiaomi 15 Pro’s 6.73-inch-sized quad-curved OLED display. The base Xiaomi 16 model, on the other hand, will retain the 6.36-inch panel from Xiaomi 15.

The Xiaomi 16 series will be one of the first phones to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor. Based on past launches, we expect that Xiaomi will first launch the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro in China, with the Ultra model likely arriving at a later event.
