The PlayStation Network apparently miscategorizes virtually all PS Store purchases that players make, for reasons no one knows. A user who initiated a data access request with PlayStation brought to our attention that all of their transactions were marked “violence” or “dugs,” including PS4 themes and PSN avatars. We can confirm that this is indeed the case.
PS Store purchases only appear to have two categories: violence and drugs
I initiated a data access request myself to confirm if what the user was describing was just a technical error or not, and found that my own PS Store transactions were listed under “violence” and drugs” categories. My PS Plus membership? Drugs. My PSN butterfly avatar? Violence. My Little Pony? Violence.
In the entire spreadsheet, I couldn’t locate any category other than these two.
I’m no expert but data access requests are a legal right in a large number of countries, and the results they produce can be used in courts, should the need arise. I don’t foresee anyone using their PlayStation transaction history in a lawsuit, but we’ve seen some pretty strange lawsuits in the gaming world, so never say never. Imagine having to explain this to a judge.
Have our readers ever initiated a PlayStation data access request? Let us know if you find any gems in your document.
P.S. This is meant to be a lighthearted article, so leave that Sony defense at the door.
P.P.S. I did not buy drugs from the PS Store.
