Galaxy Watch leapfrogs to One UI 8 Watch – here’s what’s coming
AH Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Review (2)

Samsung will reportedly not be releasing One UI 7 Watch for its lineup of Galaxy Watch smartwatches, instead choosing to skip ahead to One UI 8 Watch, according to a new rumor. Galaxy Watch smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra currently run on One UI 6 Watch. Users were expecting to receive updates to One UI 7 Watch following the release of One UI 7 on smartphones. A recent build of the One UI 7 Watch beta was also recently spotted, further fanning the flames of belief that Samsung was close to pushing out the software update.

That is potentially not going to be the case, however. A recent rumor from @DevOfIpos on X mentions that the One UI 8 Watch firmware has been extracted. This suggests that Samsung is skipping One UI 7 Watch and moving straight to One UI 8 Watch instead. It’s worth noting that @DevOfIpos is the same person who leaked details about One UI 8 for Samsung phones.

One UI 8 Watch will include several new system sounds

Part of the changes coming to One UI 8 Watch include new system sounds, and it seems the extracted firmware includes these sounds. Users can expect new sounds for many of the main functions, including new sounds for low battery alerts and when putting the watch on a charger.

The sounds are also said to be “almost all new” and be almost identical to the sounds on One UI 7 for phones. Just with a “higher pitch” than that of the phone counterparts.

Gemini will replace Google Assistant

The big change with One UI 8 Watch is replacing Google Assistant with Gemini. This shouldn’t be a huge shock, since Google already plans to replace Assistant with Gemini on phones. It makes perfect sense for companies like Samsung to follow suit with its watches and other devices.

Google also confirmed Gemini was coming to Wear OS. When it comes to a release date, the rumor doesn’t mention anything about Samsung’s schedule. However, Samsung has been rumored to potentially push out the beta for One UI 8 for phones in June. It’s possible that Samsung could be pushing the beta builds for One UI 8 Watch around the same time.
