Galaxy Watch could get battery protection feature; here’s what it does
AH Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Review

Earlier this month, a report indicated that Samsung will skip One UI 7 Watch entirely and jump straight to One UI 8 Watch. It will bring fresh system sounds, a snappier interface, and Gemini stepping in to replace Google Assistant. Many things about the upcoming OS update for Galaxy watches have already leaked. One of the leaks suggested that the Samsung Health app in One UI 8 Watch could make your Galaxy Watch your new Nutritionist.

Now, a new report has shed some details on a feature that the Galaxy watches could borrow from its high-end smartphones. According to Android Authority, Samsung is working on a much-needed battery protection feature for the Galaxy Watch series.

One UI 8 Watch could prolong your Galaxy Watch’s battery life with this feature

The folks over at Android Authority have found strings of code in an early One UI 8 Watch version. It refers to a battery protection functionality for smartwatches. The strings of code have revealed that the feature will “Stop charging when the battery level reaches %d%% and start charging again when it drops down to %d%%.”

The Battery app’s version 4.0.0.0.8 revealed the code. It will stop charging after reaching a certain percentage and kick it back on again after it drops below a specified threshold. It’s worth mentioning that most phones have limits on charging at around 80 percent.

However, some of these devices could offer a variable threshold. There’s a possibility that Samsung could allow you to set different limits for the Galaxy Watch series. That said, we can expect the battery protection feature for the Galaxy Watch series to arrive later this year with the One UI 8 update.

Google’s Pixel Watch could get a similar functionality

Android Authority, in an APK teardown in February, also found that Google could offer Adaptive Charging from Pixel phones on the Pixel Watch. A build of the Pixel Watch Management Service app included several mentions of the Adaptive Charging feature. It will supposedly prolong and protect your Galaxy Watch’s battery lifespan by learning your charging habits.

It will charge the battery to full right before you usually get your watch off the charger. While Google hasn’t yet officially confirmed anything, this feature could arrive at some point later this year.
