People using the Chromecast with Google TV have been pretty disappointed lately. The company promised a massive update to Android 14. However, the company ran into some issues, but thankfully, Google is finally releasing the Android 14 update to its Chromecast with Google TV devices.
Last year, Google promised to update its Chromecast devices to Android 14. While Android 14 is old news by smartphone standards, Chromecast and Android Auto devices are typically a few steps behind. The update was supposed to come back in 2024, but the company delayed it until March of this year.
To make things worse, when Google did release the update, it was extremely buggy. There were so many issues that Google had to pull the OTA. This meant that there were either people who didn’t get the update or people who got the update but had to battle a bunch of bugs.
Google is finally rolling Android 14 out to Chromecast with Google TV devices
Better late than never! Google is now finally rolling out the stable update for Android 14 (UTTC.241218.008.H1.13427172). The update will do two things, depending on whether or not you initially received it in March. If you didn’t get the update, then this will just be a small patch. The patch brings the system security patch up to January 2025, fixes the issue with the device not reading external storage, and fixes the issue with settings crashing in certain menus.
If you haven’t gotten the update in March, then Android TV 14 will be a large platform upgrade for you. After installing it, the voice remote will support Find My Remote and gain customizable buttons. Along with that, you will get the UI and functionality changes that come with Android 14.
Obviously, if you are moving from Android 12 to Android 14, then it will be a much larger download. You’ll want to make sure that you have sufficient storage to download and install the update.
