Windows 11 can now compress image quality without needing an app
A new feature has appeared in preview versions of Windows 11 that allow you to compress the file size of an image without having to resize its resolution in an app like Photos or Paint or fiddling with its image quality and file format in an app like Photoshop or GIMP. According to Windows Latest, the new feature appears in the Windows Share UI, which now has a toggle that lets you change the quality setting for image files. You can select between Original, Low, Medium, and High quality settings, and Windows will then create a new image file with the same dimensions but compressed quality. In their test, Windows Latest found that a 1MB wallpaper with 3840×2160 resolution could be shrunk down to 147KB without resizing. Furthermore, you can crop the resulting image and make other changes. This feature is currently being rolled out to Windows 11 Insiders and should be available to standard users in the coming months.
