Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Comes to PlayStation on September 25

Get ready to hit the track once again with your favorite characters from the Sonic universe – and more! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is speeding onto PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on September 25.

Today’s brand-new trailer gives fans a glimpse of the excitement to come, highlighting the high-speed racing action and growing roster of characters players can expect to see at launch and beyond!

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Comes to PlayStation on September 25

This new entry to the Sonic Racing franchise features the biggest lineup of characters the series has ever seen with more than 23 playable racers to choose from. Players can blaze through each track with iconic Sonic characters they know and love, but that’s not all! The roster will continue to grow after launch with crossover characters from other Segatitles, as well as surprise guest racers from other popular game franchises, such as Minecraft, joining Sonic and friends. We also spoke with Sonic Team Creative Officer, Takashi Iizuka, on how the team worked together to make this the biggest addition to Sonic Racing yet.

When we started planning for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, we wanted to make it the next major title in the Sonic Racing series that started with Sonic & SegaAll-Stars Racing. To achieve this, we needed to create a comprehensive compilation of all the fun from past titles for it to become a masterpiece in the series. We felt it was necessary to feature a wide variety of Segacharacters as playable racers, since that was a core feature people loved in the previous titles. Including characters from both Segaand ATLUS games – new and old – in this game allowed us to break down franchise barriers and deliver an exciting racing experience for players. We’ve even gone so far as to include other iconic characters outside of SEGA’s lineup to join the race and expand the game’s appeal to more people. Takashi Iizuka, Creative Officer, Sonic Team

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds not only transports players to tracks inspired by classic Sonic stages, but also introduces the all-new Travel Rings mechanic, whisking players away across land, sea, air, time – and even space – mid-race! Here’s the twist: whoever’s in the lead gets to pick which world everyone gets transported to during the second lap, so no two races are ever quite the same.

We designed many brand-new tracks for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, but we also know that fans like racing on tracks that take them back to places they remember from Sonic’s history. In addition to the new locations, we also designed tracks using themes from past titles to create new ones based on familiar places. I am personally excited about the track based on Metal Harbor since I worked on Sonic Adventure 2. The team did an amazing job bringing Metal Harbor to life with a realistic portrayal that was impossible to accomplish back when the original stage was created.

With over 70 Gadgets to choose from, there are countless ways to customize your approach to each race. Whether it’s boosting your speed or carrying more items, each combination of Gadgets allows for a different playstyle, so players can strategize how they want to beat the competition and be the first to cross the finish line! Plus, the fan-favorite Extreme Gear hoverboards from Sonic Riders are back and better than ever, amping up the high-speed fun and vehicle choices. You can make your ride your own inside and out by mixing and matching parts, powers, and abilities to create a vehicle that’s unique to you!

As we bring Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to PlayStation players, we are excited to share the most ambitious Sonic Racing experience yet. This time, we have the biggest group of Sonic characters to choose from, and for the first time, fans can also race as iconic characters from other Segagames and popular entertainment franchises. With new Travel Rings, Gadgets, and the return of Extreme Gear, we hope each race feels fresh and fun, allowing fans to race in their own style. Whether you have played before or are new to Sonic Racing, we hope you enjoy the surprises and adventures in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
