Prian Energy: India’s Solar-Driven EV Charging Pioneer

In India’s accelerating push toward clean mobility, one startup is charging ahead with purpose and innovation. Founded by two Air Force veterans, Prian Energy is reshaping the EV landscape with solar-integrated, locally manufactured charging solutions. With a mission rooted in sustainability, accessibility, and national self-reliance, the Pune-based venture is not only building infrastructure but also powering livelihoods and environmental impact across the country.

From Air Force to Innovation

Driven by a vision of a cleaner, self-reliant India, Sqn Ldr Anuradha Thakur (Retd) and Flt Lt Prashant Sinha (Retd) founded Prian Energy in 2018. Their journey began not with business plans, but with a deep personal experience.

Drawing on their leadership roles in the Indian Air Force and experience with multinational companies, they launched Prian Energy in Pune with a mission to redefine EV charging infrastructure in India, starting from the ground up.

A Name with Purpose

Prian is more than a name—it’s a manifesto:

  • Powering sustainably
  • Renewables at its core
  • Innovation in every solution
  • Accessibility for all
  • Nation-first commitment

These pillars reflect the startup’s alignment with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and its focus on scalable, solar-powered EV solutions.

Solving for Accessibility and Sustainability

India’s EV revolution is underway, but infrastructure gaps threaten its progress. Prian Energy tackles this challenge head-on by designing and manufacturing fully indigenous, solar-integrated EV chargers. Their chargers not only reduce the load on the grid but are also affordable, customizable, and repairable even after the warranty expires, minimising e-waste.

Each charger integrates seamlessly with Prian’s proprietary Application and Charging Management System (CMS), offering users and partners a complete digital and hardware solution.

Built in India, For India

While the market is flooded with Chinese imports, Prian Energy’s "Made in India" ethos sets it apart. The company has installed over 100 chargers within six months of its launch phase, earning recognition from both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra’s Chief Minister.

The startup was one of only six chosen from over 1,200 to present at Startup Mahakumbh to Hon. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, and has forged key partnerships, including with a leading EV manufacturer for deployment across Maharashtra.

A Scalable Business Model

Prian Energy operates through direct hardware sales, integration with solar systems, and subscriptions to its digital CMS platform. The company offers flexible CapEx, OpEx, and subscription pricing to suit diverse client needs. With a rapidly growing retailer network across India, even remote areas can now access and deploy EV infrastructure.

Creating Impact, Not Just Infrastructure

Beyond environmental benefits, Prian Energy plays a critical role in job creation. By empowering retailers and technicians across regions, the company fosters localised entrepreneurship and technical upskilling. Its commitment to reducing e-waste and integrating renewable energy makes its solution both ecologically and economically sustainable.

Looking forward, Prian Energy plans to expand into DC fast charging and smart-grid technologies, further reinforcing its solar-first strategy. The team is also exploring collaborations with leading automobile manufacturers to standardise and scale their solutions nationwide.
