Xbox’s best racing game series (if only because Project Gotham Racing went the way of the dodo) is finally going multiplatform as Forza Horizon 5 is now available on PlayStation 5. While the game originally released in 2021, it has been receiving updates ever since, so PS5 players are getting the game at its peak rather than it feeling dated. In fact, it’s now the best PS5 racing game available on the system.

If you’re not familiar with the Horizon games, they are Playground Games’ open-world spin-offs of the core Forza Motorsport series, which is a simulation racing game like Gran Turismo. It winds up being a great mix as it still features great physics and incredible detail, but also mixes that with an arcade setting, ridiculous jumps, and a whole lot of fun. There’s a wide range of cars to take onto the road and drive to wherever you want to go, and they’re all a lot of fun. There’s also a great sense of progression, as you’re constantly unlocking new perks and vehicles.

Forza Horizon 5 features a massive open world that is a fictional version of Mexico and is filled with everything from an active volcano to Mayan temples to race through. It’s an absolutely massive world that is backed up by a wonderful array of events that range from races to multiplayer mini-games and plenty of reasons to explore, as you’re always earning XP for visiting more of the map. It’s a real accomplishment and Playground Games’ most impressive to date, as they’ve really built upon the four prior games to create one of the best racing games ever made that looks and run greats on PS5 Pro.

The PS5 release is well-timed as the game is getting an exciting update called Horizon Realms. As previously mentioned, Forza Horizon 5 has seen plenty of updates as its world has continued to evolve, and Horizon Realms allows players to view some of the best locations that were previously only in the game for a limited time. These include the Winter Wonderland and Summer Party locations, and an all-new Stadium Track, which is racing-themed. It’s great that these fan-favorite locales can be revisited whenever you like and that PlayStation players can check them out.

There’s really an embarrassing amount of content in Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 release, as its Rally Adventure and Hot Wheels expansions are also available. These both feature entirely new maps, cars, and even mechanics, with the Rally Adventure featuring pacenotes as you navigate some ridiculous rally courses, and the Hot Wheels tracks featuring plenty of loops, speed bursts, and some of the most fun you can have in an arcade racing game. These both add in another 40 hours or so of content, so you won’t have to or want to get another racing game in quite a while.

Forza Horizon 5 (PS5) Review: Final Verdict

Forza Horizon 5 was well worth the wait for PS5 owners, who are getting the incredible racing game in its most content-rich state yet. Filled with polish and a progression system that makes every gameplay session feel meaningful, this is one of the best racing games ever made and a must-own for fans. If you’ve been a PlayStation-exclusive gamer, then make sure to check out what you’ve been missing.

  • Incredibly fun racing and exploration
  • Mexico and the two DLCs are a blast to drive around
  • One of the most content-rich racing games ever made
